England Pavilion was freaking cool. Off to Taiwan tomorrow!!

Third day was quite enjoyable. Kinda made up for the terrible time we had yesterday (meaning Day 2 of sun family expo trip). We saw the England, France, and Spain pavilions without much waiting. then bounced out of expo forever…spain was awesome, there was a super hot flamenco dancer, england was even cooler, and it really inspired me to continue with studying Environmental Biology. Seriously, world expo did its job and inspired me to be super green and study how to save the earth

in the read more there is more detail about what happened…. but before that something more journal/georgie style that i noticed at the expo:

One thing that has happened a lot of times here at the expo is that when we are standing around/waiting in line, we often talk to other families. Well, that’s not what I wanted to say haha, I meant to say that a lot of these moms will talk about how big and strong me and john are, and how jealous they are that we take care of our mom, are so respectful etc…yet I don’t find my actions extremely nice and respectful, this is just how we were raised in America. We don’t (most of us) walk in front of people taking pictures if we notice they are doing so, or push people out of line and yell at them. We are naturally pretty nice and respectful, and I think this is due to the fact that we aren’t always fighting for a spot in line etc. I dunno, culture differences have always been an interest of mine.

Day 5 6/17

Day 2 of expo, even worse than day one because our feet were not fully healed from all the walking. Pretty much the verdict is that the world expo sucks.

Well to be fair it isn’t THAT bad, there is just a ridiculous amount of walking and waiting and people and shoving and humidity. Today was a little better because we went late and didn’t have to rush for any particular pavilion. Just looked around at some of the basic not-so-big ones. These were actually a lot more informative and museum like, with exhibits for us to walk around and actually enjoy. This is what I expected the expo to be like, lots of exhibits with cool things to look at. Not the craze of rushing around.  But later in the afternoon we decided to go to the European section. These were a little cooler than the other ones, and the designs of the buildings were quite amazing. But no way were we going to wait 3 hours just to see the inside of a building, especially if all the big expos were just a movie.

It actually made us quite sad; the mindset of the people who visit the expo. China gave out hundreds of thousands (I think even more though…) of free tickets to its citizens. Almost EVERYONE at the expo was local. This defeats the whole purpose, they don’t appreciate anything going on in the expo at all. They aren’t taking the theme to heart. All they do is rush around, shoving people with no manners, in order to collect stamps at each of the individual pavilions into a little “expo passport”. It’s quite ridiculous. I came to the expo imagining it to be a world class demonstration by each of the countries for a better, greener future. Yet all I see is hoards of people, shoving, rushing, not appreciating anything. Sigh…

Day 6 6/18

Day 3 of expo. Today was quite enjoyable actually! We got to the expo around 9 o clock to wait in line at the nicer European pavilions. Went to Spain pavilion first, and got in without much waiting, just walking for a couple minutes (no standing around forever…). Spain was super cool, there was this hot flamenco dancer and it was just a really cool show; at the end of it, there was a giant scary robot baby. France was only okay…just some culture. Then went over to the England one. This was by far my favorite of the entire trip; apart from the little teacups that we got from the Taiwan pavilion. If you haven’t seen it, there are around 20,000 plastic tubes going in and out in the form of a giant seed. Within the tubes there are about 60,000 individual seeds, around 900 unique types. It was awesome, this is truly embracing the green ideal. And there were even some “fake seeds” that England was inventing. Super super cool.

Then we went back to the hotel to rest. It was pretty chill, just relaxing after a stress three days of walking around. Night time we went to a local little shopping center (it was really new and nice) just next to the hotel. Had an all you can eat style meal at a restaurant for 150 RMB each. It was actually pretty darn good, with lots of variety of sushi, and specialty lamb/seafood meats. Quite a good decision by me to eat there I must say. Then just packing for Taiwan!!!!
